I have a favorite Self Portrait that I've previously posted on this blog, but haven't entered in a contest. Since this weeks I Heart Faces Challenge is "Self Portrait" I saw it fitting. :)

Beginnings
A contest ran by SHOOTStyle, a group of New England Photographers, asked for photo submissions from fellow Photographers illustrating the word "beginnings" and what it meant to them.
The assignment was open to all professional, semi-pro and rank amateur photographers in the New England area.
My entry won third place! I'm psyched!

Cherish Those You Love
I recently read an article by Deb Schwedhelm that really touched my heart. And it makes me want to ask you, my dear reader, what holds you back from getting your portraits done with your family?
I would say, "I hate being in front of the camera," I'm sure other folks would say things like they needed to loose weight, or that they don't want family portraits done in the winter so they want to wait till spring. Whatever the excuse...you must realize that there is NO perfect time to have portraits done with your family!
Too many people lead lives that are so busy, that they don't take the time to slow it down a bit and have some quality time with the people whom they love. You may not appreciate having a family portrait done now. But what if you did and 10 years down the road it was one of your child's most cherished possessions? Would you appreciate it then?

Chicken shit!! Chicken shit!!
A fellow blogger over at The Quarter Life Quest recently posted a blog about being a Hypocritical Chicken Shit, the funny thing about it is that it made me realize a little something about myself.
I, too, am a Hypocritical Chicken Shit. Not that I like admitting that or anything, but, I'm trying to be honest here! I can talk the talk, but when it comes to walking the walk...well wait half a darn minute here, no one said ANYTHING about walking a walk!!
Over the past three or so years I have had this passion/obsession for photography. I had this crappy little Sony Cyber shot that I tried to take good looking photos with. I took photos of everything.
Then, before my third son was born in 2008 I got a more advanced camera. It was still a point and shoot, but I was happier than a pig in mud. This is where my obsession for photography really started to kick in. I was posing people and trying to get the lighting 'just right', and so on and so forth. I realized that my passion was photography and that is what I wanted to do when I grew up.
Just so you are aware, I was 30 in 2008. Just sayin'.
I was invited by our local roller derby team to be a photographer for their upcoming match. I was so psyched, this was the first time that I was ever “on the list” for anything. A friend and my middle son came with me to watch the event.
At this venue, the lighting sucked. Oh boy, did it SUCK! I wanted to leave, in the middle of the game. I was practically to tears when my friend, John, stepped in and does what he does best and gave me some words of encouragement. I decided to stay till the end of the match.
When we got home I couldn't wait to get on my computer and check out my pictures. I uploaded them, and then I cried. They were grainy, oh so grainy.
Flipping stinky lighting!!!! Curse you!! Stupid sucky camera, curse you too!!!
I shut my computer off and put my camera away. Just about three months passed until I picked that darn camera up again. I was asked me why I was giving up, people KNEW how much I loved it, how much it made me happy. I was told that I should take that experience and swallow it standing, learn from it, become better from it.
It took me a while to really understand what he was saying. I totally get it now.
That was months ago. I have since received a FAR better camera and am learning something new about photography almost every day. I have become a sponge that wants to soak it all up. I take pictures everyday, and if I fail at what I was hoping to accomplish with the shot, I go out and take it again. I WANT to have a gallery someday, I want to find my niche in this field and be the best I can be at it.
I don't want to be a Chicken Shit anymore!

I'm starting to get bloggy excited over here!!
I've decided that my original blog (this one) was getting a little jumbled. I had posts about my photography, then I had posts with my little stories (about my adventures, my kids, my life in general). Today I started to wonder if I was getting sidetracked? As I have a passion for photography, but then I also like to TALK too!
I noticed that some folks have 2 blogs, some a lot more! And I wondered if I should do that as well. Could I REALLY have enough of interest for TWO blogs?
I sure hope so because I just created my newest addition to my bloggy family!
This page will be used as strictly all things photography. Photos of my kids, my friends, how I managed to get that shot, what I'm learning, and even how I'm pushing myself to have my own (GASP) photography business/gallery. As YES, that IS MY PLAN!!
Wanna come along for the ride? :) I sure hope so! Also feel free to check out my newest addition where I plan on talking about anything and everything about life in general - being a parent, pets, politics, bizzaro things that I've ran into, you NAME it!! :) Introducing, "Wake Up and Smell The Coffee - Thoughts Written and Pictures Taken While Half Awake." Here's the link if you'd like to check it out: http://smellthecoffeewakeup.blogspot.com/

April Showers Blog Design Giveaway
I learned from a fellow blogger, Ericka at alabaster cow that April Showers Blog Design is having giveaway with 3 prizes!
Why I feel that I already need a blog overhaul when I just started blogging very recently...but...start out with a bang? Yeah, that's what I'm thinking! :D
Good luck and have fun! I will say however, I'm beginning to feel a little like a stalker as I entered like 5 times! Yes! You can enter that many times, check it out for yourself!
Cheers!

2005 Trip to Puerto Rico
I stated in an earlier blog that I would post some pics that I took while I was there at some point. Well since I haven't taken much for photos since this past weekend, I decided that today would be a perfect opportunity for this post!
I wish I had more of an interest in photography while I was there...but sadly the only camera I had was a sad 35mm believe it or not!! Kind of a bummer too as the culture there is AMAZING. So much to see and take in. Hopefully someday I will be able to go back and be able to share much more of my stay!

iheart faces: Dramatic Black and White Photography
I just took this photo about a week ago and I've been waiting for a real good reason to post it since this is a NEW blog for me. A mood, feeling, I wrote a poem/story and I thought this picture would look great with it, etc. But today I saw that the folks at iheartfaces were looking for dramatic black and white photo entries this week and I knew EXACTLY which one I would share with them and you!
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
